Weiss
Albert Weiss, a former employee of Coro, opened his own business in the 1940's. "Jewels by Albert Weiss" was used on jewelry carding and in advertising. Mr. Weiss did not manufacture his own designs but instead bought designs from various "jobbers", including Hollycraft, which accounts for the wide variety of styles that jewelry with the Weiss signature encompasses. Some pieces emulate the Eisenberg style, using the paved swirls and even the keyhole clasp that Eisenberg used. The best pieces of Weiss include his well-known "Black Diamond" line and pieces that use combinations of vibrant, deep colors, the hinged thermoplastic clampers, as well as the arum rhinestone and clear rhinestone "Ice" pieces.

Description: Weiss Layered Brooch in Olivine/Indian Sapphire Blue Rhinestones with Paved Swirls - Late 1950's era Weiss in an unusual combination of olive green and a greyed Montana blue usually referred to as Indian Sapphire. Description: Weiss Glass Pearl and Jadeite Bead "Space Age" Brooch - Space age designs influenced furniture, architecture, automobiles and wearing apparel in the late 1950's and into the 1960's; this type of eye-catching piece was perfect for the shoulder of the sheath dresses coming into popularity. This is a soft green, sometimes called "spring" green. In the center is a glass moonstone cab, surrounded by a row of creamy glass pearls which is surrounded by another row of the green beads. Wire "spokes" in goldtone shoot out from the center and go clear around to the back, giving this almost an abstract floral appearance. Brooch is about 2 1/2" in diameter. Description: Weiss Pin Pendant/Earrings Set in Bermuda Blue Cupcake Rivolis - Depending on which way the light hits these, I see Capri (peacock) blue, teal and peridot colors in the rivolis, and the small accent rhinestones are in both teal and Capri. Please notice how the rivolis graduate in size from bottom to top on all pieces. Darkened silvertone setting, brooch is 2 3/4" x 2, earrings are clip, 1 3/8" x 7/8". Brooch is marked Weiss in oval cartouche at center back, earrings are unmarked but an obvious match. These pieces use the little floral "knobs" that Weiss seemed to use to attach most rivoli stones. The brooch is to be worn in the direction shown, but would be worn upside down if used as a pendant. ( It would be fun to fashion a special bead necklace of Capri and teal Swarovski crystal beads to use when you want to use this as a pendant, but this could also be worn on an oxidized silver heavy chain or perhaps even on a pearl necklace.) Description: Weiss Arum Rhinestone Brooch and Earrings Set - I'm not sure if this is a stylized flower, a pinwheel, a starfish or something else, but it is a very pretty and wearable design, done in goldtone with arum (gold metallic coated) rhinestones. Slightly over 2 1/2" in diameter, the center is domed and the leaves turn under enough to give this a 3 dimensional effect. Matching domed earrings are clip, about 1" in diameter. Description: Weiss Clear Dentelle and Baguette Rhinestone Necklace - It has recently come to light that the Eisenberg and Weiss necklaces that use the "keyhole" adjustable clasp were manufactured by the same subcontractor, so if you think it is difficult to tell by looking which company's name will be on the clasp, well, that's why. This beautiful Weiss piece uses two rows of large (9mm) dentelles, with alternating pairs separated by a set of two baguettes. Slightly smaller stones are used to taper off the center motif and on the standard back chains. Adjustable to a maximum of about 17 1/2", this sparkler is in excellent condition with only the tiniest bit of yellowing to the baguettes. Rhodium plated. Blinding! Description: Spectacular Weiss Clear Rhinestone Pinwheel Brooch - One of the best clear rhinestone brooches I have ever had, equal to any of the 1950's Eisenberg. This features seven 13mm dentelle (fancy) cut rhinestones, six 7.75mm dentelle rhinestones, six rectangular cuts and a whole lot of graduated pave set stones. Blindingly beautiful, this baby was very difficult to photograph because of its refraction. Center stone has a small hazy spot only noticeable with close scrutiny, otherwise superior condition.
