ORA

This Chicago based company was begun by Oreste Agnini and Ralph Singer - ORA was a combination of Oreste and Ralph. This signature was first used in the 1940's; apparently the earliest pieces were unsigned. Most of the time ORA pieces are found intact - no missing stones - and apparently the glue "secret" was that the company used clear nail enamel as an adhesive! Though similar in style to Bogoff, another Chicago based fashion jewelry company of the same time period, both companies say they had no knowledge of each other.

Description: ORA Basket Brooch - For some reason this tiny 1 1/2" x 1 3/8" brooch didn't photograph well color-wise; the flowers are done in dark pink, lavender, medium aqua, light aqua and topaz stones, with lime green stones for the leaves and the basket is done in clears, with two clear baguettes at the bottom. Goldtone setting, very good condition with just a little yellowing of some of the basket clears. If you are, or know, a basket collector, this is quite charming, and very reasonably priced.
