Napier
Thanks to the wonderful book by Melinda Lewis, "The Napier Company - Defining 20th Century Costume Jewelry", there is an upswing of interest in the pieces from this venerable manufacturer. Napier became particularly well-known to the general public in the 1970's due to their long-running ad campaign, "Napier is ----ier" (Napier is Sexier, Napier is Classier, Napier is Dressier, Napier is Snakeier, etc.) that ran in the influential fashion magazines of the day. Napier always seems to have been well made and ran the gamut from metals and beads for workwear/daywear to high-end rhinestones for evening.

Description: Napier Crystal and Rhinestone Floral Necklace and Earrings Set - Done in rich jeweltones of emerald, fuchsia, siam red, capri blue, montana blue, purple, green tourmaline AB and black crystal beads, with goldtone spacer beads, this two row nested necklace is approximately 24" including fancy clasp, which uses emerald and amethyst rhinestones around a center AB rhinestone in a goldtone floral setting. Clip earrings copy the clasp motif, about 1" in diameter. Donut hole clip is marked Napier Pat. Pend., while necklace clasp, with push in closure, is marked Napier © in block letters. This looks 1960's to me; fancy clasp can be worn in back, or at the side as was fashionable then. Excellent condition, original hang tag says Napier 2820, with original retail of $30.00 (which would have been probably just for the necklace, as the earrings would probably have been carded and priced separately.) Description: Napier Glass Pearl Belly Turtle Brooch - Probably from the 1980's, this little guy is free from ornamentation except for his glass pearl "shell". 3-dimensional, he measures 1 5/8" x 1 1/8" x 5/8" deep. Signed © Napier in script, excellent, probably unworn condition. Slow and steady wins the race! Great price. Item: SP13-1360 Price: $10.00 US |

Description: Napier Faux Lapis and Pink Bead Necklace and Earrings Set - Elegant and well made, this set uses dark blue faux lapis beads, pink glass wound beads, rectangular and round filigree beads and goldtone spacers. Necklace is strung on chain, spring ring clasp, and measures 36", so this could be worn long or doubled. Earrings feature the rectangular filigree bead and two blue and one pink beads for dangles. Adjustable screw clip mechanism for earrings; all pieces marked and the utility patent number for the screw clip is on the inside, however the mark on the necklace is on the heavy-duty ring at the clasp and can only be seen with magnification - I would not have found it if I hadn't been looking for it! One tiny spacer bead seems to be missing at the clasp but other than that I see no issues whatever, this is in excellent condition. Because of the style, use of chain and the screw-clip mechanism, I am guessing this set dates to the 1960's. Not that many companies used the screw clip.

Description: Napier Black Collar Link Necklace - This impressive yet wearable piece from Napier features black enamel over goldtone metal, with slightly "S" shaped links making up the entire design. Foldover clasp is marked Napier in script with a pat number (difficult to read but I believe is 4,770,745 (I could be completely off on this number.) and the body of the piece is almost marked Napier in a rectangular shape, block letters, with a copyright symbol. Very substantial feeling, slightly over 1" wide, 18" long. Excellent if not perfect condition, any "spots" you see in the picture are lighting reflections. This is shown in Melinda Lewis's book on Napier, and is identified as being from their "Modern Arts" collection from 1991, and originally retailed for $75.00! Her current valuation is $125-150. While you might not agree with that value, it certainly makes my price look like a bargain! Item: SN4-782 Price: $20.00 US Sorry, SOLD! ![]() |
Description: Napier Huge Goldtone Floral Brooch - If you think all metal pieces are ho-hum, think again. At almost 5 1/2" x 2" x 1/2" deep, this piece is no wallflower! I can't tell you exactly what flower this is supposed to be but it reminds me of the ruffled petunias I have seen, or perhaps carnations. Excellent condition with only minimal scratching on the stems. Napier continues to catch on with knowledgeable collectors. Item: SP5-845 Price: $35.00 US Sorry, SOLD! |

Description: Napier Cream Plastic, Goldtone Wire and Clear Rhinestone Fish Pin - Thermoplastic piece, perhaps originally white? but perhaps not. Excellent condition, 1 5/8" x 1 1/2", uses a lattice type base that better 1960's-1970's pieces sometimes used. Fun piece and very wearable. Interest in Napier is increasing. Item: SP7-698 Price: $14.50 US Sorry, SOLD! |
