The Swinging 60's
The 1960's were ushered in with the election of John Kennedy - and fashion eyes focused on Jaqueline Bouvier Kennedy. The Shift became the dress of the decade; in stark contrast to the full skirts and cocktail styles of the 1950's, this "new" look was streamlined and often done in colorful abstract florals and geometrics, as well as solid colors. As the Viet Nam war ground on, the Flower Children of San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury District as well as other places influenced fashion and suddenly flowers pinned to shift dresses was the look everywhere. These flowers came in all colors and sizes and made of various materials, with enameled metals being the most popular look.

Description: Fuschia Pearlized Plastic Pinwheel Floral Brooch - This has two layers and is dome shaped, with the top layer bordered with clear rhinestones. This reminds me of hair barrettes that my sister and I had in the early 1960's and I feel that this actually pre-dates by a few years most of the pieces on this page. 2 3/4" in diameter and everything is original - a few of the clear rhinestones are starting to darken but otherwise excellent condition.
