Hattie Carnegie

Hattie Carnegie emigrated from Austria to the United States as a small child and chose to change her name from Kanengeiser to Carnegie because it sounded "successful" (from industrialist Andrew Carnegie). After various jobs as a teenager, she began her design career making hats, and eventually went on to become one of the most prominent and award-winning clothing designers of her time. A shrewd entrenpreneur, Hattie also went on to produce her own perfume, jewelry, and other accessories. She mentored many rising designers and was truly a woman ahead of her time. One of her NYC showroom models was a beautiful young girl whom you will know as the actress Lucille Ball (before Lucy established her trademark red hair). Lucy was another person lucky enough to receive Hattie's mentoring, with Hattie even caring for her when Lucy became seriously ill as a teenager.

Description: Hattie Carnegie Magnificent Demi Parure in Emerald Green AB - HC won several design awards, and when you see how this is constructed, you will know why. Both the necklace and earrings are done with staggered rows of peridot? (not certain what color) aurora borealis rhinestone chain soldered together, with parallel rows of emerald green aurora borealis chain over the top of the lower grid, with the emerald AB attached at either end but hanging loosely at the center of each strand. The center of the necklace uses a single pear stone bordered by rhinestone chain, with a rhinestone set hook and chain closure, adjusting up to a maximum of about 18 1/2", and about 7/8" wide. Bracelet is 7" x 7/8" with a push in hidden clasp and safety chain. Earrings are clip, about 2" x 1" and follow the motif of the center of the necklace, with two pears each surrounded by rhinestone chain. A tremendous set in excellent condition, a worthy centerpiece of any Hattie collection.

Description: Hattie Carnegie Petite Waterfall Earrings - Done in clear marquise rhinestones and small clear rounds, this design has two marquise in the top row, three in the second, two in the third row, and one on the bottow, with clears on either end and in between the marquises. Like many Carnegie pieces, these are flexible for maximum movement, using foxtail chain as the "spine" that holds the rows together. Signed Carnegie on the ear clip mechanisms, these measure 1 1/2" x 5/8", so a very wearable, elegant size. Silvertone setting, excellent condition. It is easy to see why this company won design awards.

Description: Hattie Carnegie Mesh/Rhinestone Waterfall Necklace & Earring Set - Seen on other site for over 2x what we have priced it at, this iconic set is both versatile and extremely flattering on. Excellent original condition, with dangling foxtail chain culminating in clear rhinestones. Clip earrings are about 1 3/4" x 3/8" at longest points. Necklace is 16" with 2 1/2" dangles and spring ring clasp - this could be extended with a chain if desired. Pictured in at least one jewelry book, there is apparently another variation of the earrings and a matching brooch (and I am betting a bracelet as well.)

Description: Hattie Carnegie "Press and Glow" Light Up Tree in Original Box - One of the ultimate finds for a tree collector and for those who love Hattie. I do not know whether this will work or not as I have not been able to find the correct battery; I am assuming the original battery would have been a hearing aid battery?? Anyway an added plus is the original presentation box, and all appear to be in excellent condition. Pin that holds the cover to the battery shut is a little loose but could be adjusted once you find the correct battery.
