1928 (brand) Jewelry
1928 Jewelry is made in Burbank, California, and has been produced for about 40 years. Vintage-looking in style, they have made pieces using a variety of components - glass pearls, rhinestones, cabochons and specialty stones, enamels, crystals, etc., and their most classic look over the years has been the porcelain rose pieces. 1928 not only makes jewelry under their own name, but also has manufactured for other companies over the years. They also made "gift" type pieces, and for a short time produced a wonderful perfume.
Not all 1928 Jewelry is marked, but most of the unmarked pieces are identifiable because of the distinctive patterns that they used on the backs of their pieces. Earrings and brooches are rarely marked, though necklaces and bracelets usually have the 1928 metal hangtags. Most 1928 design groupings had at least several different styles - one or two necklaces, a bracelet, a brooch or two, and 2-3 or more earrings styles, and each was "named" but you would never know what the name was unless you had the catalogue. I always thought it was interesting that they paid an employee to think up names that were never seen by the public!
The pieces for sale here are at least 20 years old, but you can still buy new 1928 jewelry in certain department stores.

Description: 1928 Vatican Library Collection St. Anne Locket Necklace - The Vatican Library Collection was one of 1928's successful forays into jewelry that was not part of the general line. The artwork used in this line was taken from art used both on the interior walls of the building as well as items in the Vatican Library that may or may not be available for public viewing. Here we have a portrait of St. Anne (mother of the Virgin Mary) with either an angel or Mary as a child. The inside of the locket says "St. Anne Pray for Us" and The Vatican Library Collection. All findings are goldtone, locket measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/16". Chain is a heavier one, about 29" x 3.5mm. Unworn condition. These originally sold for about $45.00. Description: 1928 Porcelain Roses Necklace & Earrings Set - While a lot of 1928's design groupings did not always have "exact match" pieces but rather co-ordinating pieces, here is a case where they did. Pink porcelain roses sit atop five translucent petals, above hanging aurora borealis pear shaped briolette crystals. Necklace chain is done in translucent 4mm crystals, accented with two aurora borealised non-faceted beads. Hook and tail clasp adjusts to 18" maximum, 1928 metal hangtag attached. Earrings are unmarked, pierced (post) findings. A little residual glue has yellowed on the earrings (please see photos), otherwise unworn condition, but I have priced accordingly. Description: 1928 Dangling Black/Clear/Goldtone Brooch & Earrings Set - An example of pieces from a "co-ordinating" rather a "exact match" grouping. Brooch has a black center cabochon, surrounded by filiagree and rhinestones, from which dangles a single black pear. Brooch is about 1 3/4" x 1 1/2". Pierced (post-style) earrings use a black marquises surrounded by a goldtone border, with clear rhinestones at N-S-E-W, dangling from a single clear rhinestone with goldtone border. Earrings are 1 1/2" x 5/8". Unsigned, with usual swirly backsides. Unworn condition. Item: 1928-08S Price: $20.00/set US ![]() |

Description: 1928 Goldtone Leaf Brooch & Earrings Set - This set is a bit of a mystery, because I am not certain that what looks to be beading all over the top of the pieces is actually beading or cast into the pieces (I believe it is the latter). But the part that looks like bugle beads is three dimensional so it is difficult to know for certain, but I don't think they are glued on but actually part of the piece. The brooch is 2 3/8" x 2 3/4"; the clip earrings are 1 7/8" x 1 1/4". Unsigned, usual swirly pattern on back. Top quality ear clips. Excellent condition. Item: 1928-10S Price: $29.50/set US ![]() |

Description: 1928 Faux Carnelian/Glass Pearl/Green Bead Necklace and Earrings Set - Reddish brown glass?cabochon on necklace is centered in an oval filigree accented with glass pearls, with side strands done in 5mm glass pearls, olive green and carnelian colored beads, and goldtone chains. Dog collar style necklace is adjustable to about 15 1/2", 1" wide, with metal 1928 hangtag at the end. Pierced earrings are 1" x 7/8", centered with smaller oval cabochons and accented with green and brown enamel. Earrings are unsigned but have usual swirly backside pattern and are on original card. Unworn condition. Original price on earring card is visible, this set originally would have cost around $60-65. Item: 1928-11S Price: $39.50/set US Sorry, SOLD! ![]() |

Description: 1928 Cream/Taupe/Peach-Pink Dog Collar Necklace and Earrings Set - Four strand dog collar necklace is centered with an oval taupe pearl set in a heart-shaped filigree and accented with small pearls, with the side strands alternating cream and peachy-pink glass pearl strands. Adjustable hook and chain closure, necklace adjusts to 18 1/2", and has 1928 metal hangtag at the end. Earrings are pierced with taupe and cream glass pearls, 1 1/2" x 1/2", and are unmarked. Two condition items to note - the filigree endcaps on the earrings have darkened for no known reason, giving them an almost black appearance (which personally I think looks nice, almost like black lace) but if this bothers you they could pretty easily be replaced. Also, there is some residual glue on the pearl cab in the center of the necklace that has darkened with time - it looks very obvious in the picture but in person unless you turn the necklace to a certain angle it is invisible. This may come off if you wanted to try to "pick" it off, but any chemical removal would probably damage the pearl coating. Item: 1928-12S Price: $39.50/set US Sorry, SOLD! ![]() |

Description: 1928 Marcasite Bow Brooch - Unusual for 1928, this uses square genuine marcasites as a border and up the center on this 3 dimensional piece. The rest of the piece uses tiny hobnails to give the effect of small stones throughout the rest of the piece. Silvertone setting, this is marked 1928 on the back, as well as the usual swirling pattern. 2 1/2" x not quite 1". Originally an expensive piece for this company. Item: 1928-14P Price: $27.50 US |

Description: 1928 Brooch, Bracelet and Clip Earrings Set in Lt. and Dark Sapphire Blue - One of the things I always thought was interesting about 1928 design groupings was that often the styles co-ordinated but didn't "exactly" match, because that was the prevailing design wisdom for the time (and continues today). Clip earrings look almost "deco" with octagonal center stones and baguettes at N-S-E-W, 7/8" x 3/4" (card says cushion clip but these are standard clip backs, see 1928-03E above). Brooch is more Victorian in feel, but uses the same baguettes and a slightly smaller octagonal center stone, 1 3/4" x 1. Bracelet uses a mesh band and push in clasp that goes into the centerpiece, which instead of an octagon has an oval stone, and instead of baguettes, light sapphire rounds. 7" x 7/8" at widest point on center, mesh is about 5/8" wide. All in unworn, excellent condition. Item: 1928-15S Price: $45.00 demi parure US Sorry, SOLD! ![]() ![]() |
